As-salamu alaykum, and welcome.
Noor Guard was built to help you stay connected to your prayers and your deen — not to collect your data. This Privacy Policy explains, in plain language, what information the app uses, why it uses it, and (just as importantly) what it never touches. By using Noor Guard, you agree to the practices described in this Policy.
Noor Guard is developed and maintained by an independent developer, not a large company. We take your trust seriously, and we've designed the app from the ground up to need as little of your information as possible.
If that's all you needed to know, you're good to go. If you'd like the details, read on.
Noor Guard uses your device's location solely to:
Your location is processed on your device. To calculate prayer times, your approximate coordinates are sent to the Aladhan API (see Section 5 for details on this and other third-party services); the Qibla direction, by contrast, is calculated entirely on your device using your phone's compass and GPS and is never transmitted anywhere. In either case, your location is not stored on our servers (we don't have any), not linked to your identity, and not used for advertising or analytics of any kind. You can deny or revoke location permissions at any time in your device settings — Noor Guard will simply ask you to enter a city manually instead.
If you choose to enable prayer reminders or focus-session alerts, Noor Guard stores your notification settings (such as which prayers you'd like to be reminded about, and how far in advance) directly on your device using your operating system's notification framework. This information never leaves your phone.
When you mark a prayer as completed, start a focus session, or build a streak, that information is saved locally on your device only. We have no servers that receive, store, or back up this data. If you delete the app, this information is gone — it was never anywhere else.
To be completely transparent, here is what we deliberately do not do:
Simply put: there is no profile of you to build, because we never start building one.
Noor Guard is free to use. To keep it running, the free version displays ads after an initial 3-day ad-free grace period following installation.
To provide certain features, Noor Guard connects to a small number of trusted, purpose-built services. These services receive only the minimal information required to perform their specific function (for example, your approximate coordinates, sent solely to calculate prayer times) — never your identity.
Each of these services operates under its own privacy policy and terms, which govern any data exchanged directly with them when the app makes a request on your behalf. We encourage you to review their policies if you'd like further detail.
Because these services may operate servers located outside your home country, any data sent to them (such as approximate coordinates used to calculate prayer times) may be transmitted across borders. This transmission is momentary, used only to return the requested information to your device, is not stored by us, and is governed by each provider's own privacy practices.
All personal app data — your streaks, completed prayers, focus history, language preference, and settings — is stored locally on your device only. The only exception is Community Stories content, which is stored on Firebase as described in Section 7 below.
Because your data stays on your device, you remain in full control of it. Uninstalling the app, or clearing its data through your device settings, permanently removes this locally stored information.
While we've designed Noor Guard to avoid handling sensitive data in the first place, please note that no method of electronic storage or transmission is ever 100% secure. We rely on the security protections built into your device's operating system (iOS and Android) to help safeguard locally stored app data, and we encourage you to keep your device's operating system up to date.
If you choose to participate in Community Stories, certain information is uploaded to Firebase Firestore, a cloud database service operated by Google. This information includes: the text and any image content of your story, the display name you choose, your country, the story category you select, and a randomly generated device identifier (not linked to your name, email, or any personal account). This data is stored on Firebase servers and is necessary to display your story to other users. You can delete your own stories at any time directly from within the app. You can also request removal by contacting noorguard.support@gmail.com. Community Stories data is governed by Google Firebase's privacy policy, available at firebase.google.com/support/privacy.
Even though Noor Guard does not collect personal data on remote servers, you remain in control of the limited information the app does use:
Noor Guard is distributed through the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. These platforms may independently collect information about your device, downloads, purchases, and app usage in accordance with their own privacy policies — this collection happens at the platform level, outside of Noor Guard and outside of our control. We encourage you to review:
Any "App Privacy" labels (Apple) or "Data Safety" section (Google Play) you see on our store listing are written to reflect the data practices described in this Privacy Policy.
Noor Guard does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13 (or the minimum age required by applicable local law, such as 16 in parts of the European Economic Area). Because the app does not collect personal data of any kind, from users of any age, there is no special remote-data concern for younger users — though, as with any app, we recommend parental guidance when children use mobile devices. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can look into it — though, given how Noor Guard is built, this should not be possible in the first place.
Noor Guard users can report inappropriate content in Community Stories using the in-app report button. All reported content is reviewed within 24 hours and removed if it violates our community guidelines. Content that promotes anything contrary to Islamic values, contains hate speech, harassment, or inappropriate material will be removed immediately. Users who repeatedly violate community guidelines will be blocked from posting. To report content outside the app, contact us at noorguard.support@gmail.com.
This Privacy Policy is governed by the laws of the State of California, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. If any provision of this Policy is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.
If this Privacy Policy is ever updated — for example, if a new feature requires us to revisit how data is handled — we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this document and, where appropriate, notify you within the app. We encourage you to review this page occasionally to stay informed. Your continued use of Noor Guard after any changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised Policy.
If you have any questions, concerns, or feedback about this Privacy Policy or how Noor Guard works, please reach out:
We read every message and are happy to clarify anything that isn't clear.
May Allah accept your prayers and grant you ease in your worship.
